Australian regulator acknowledges TMX Group’s acquisition of Cboe Australia
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has acknowledged TMX Group Limited's completion of its acquisition of Cboe Australia, a transaction that required regulatory approval under Section 852DG of the Corporations Act 2001.
Formal lodgement, assessment, and approvals of TMX's application were finalized in July 2026, and the exchange will be rebranded as TMX Australia Exchange.
ASIC will continue overseeing the transition, including timely consideration of any rule changes to ensure clarity for market participants.
The acquisition follows a prior announcement of a purchase agreement, with TMX operating as Canada's largest financial market infrastructure group, including the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, and Montréal Exchange.
Cboe Australia, originally launched as Chi-X Australia in 2011, was acquired by Cboe Global Markets in 2021 and now holds roughly 20% of Australia's equity market turnover, representing approximately $2 billion in daily trades.
Prior to the sale, ASIC approved Cboe Australia's listing application in October 2025.
