Nomura’s Wealth Management Expansion Accelerated with New Leadership Appointment

Nomura Holdings has appointed Sudhir Nemali as the Chief Operating Officer of its international wealth management division, marking a key step in the firm's drive to strengthen its position in the growing wealth management sector, particularly within Asia.
Nemali, a seasoned professional with more than three decades of experience, joins the Japanese financial giant from Deutsche Bank, where he held the role of Chief Operating Officer for the bank’s wealth management and private banking divisions across multiple regions, including Asia-Pacific and Latin America. This move signals Nomura's intention to bring in high-level leadership to navigate the competitive dynamics of Asia's wealth management market, which has seen significant growth driven by rising affluence in the region.
In his new role, Nemali will be based in Singapore and work closely with Nomura's global and regional leadership, including Aleem Jivraj, the firm's Chief Operating Officer of global markets, and Ravi Raju, the head of international wealth management. His appointment underscores Nomura’s ambitions to further grow its international wealth management business, building on four years of strong momentum.
As Nomura seeks to enhance its capabilities and refine its strategy, Nemali will be tasked with overseeing operational improvements and ensuring that the firm's platform and processes are prepared for the next phase of growth. This includes aligning the international wealth management division’s business plans with broader corporate objectives and making sure Nomura can leverage emerging trends and capitalize on increasing wealth in key Asian markets.
Nemali’s wealth of experience is expected to help Nomura refine its approach to serving high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) in Asia, with an emphasis on improving operational efficiency, optimizing client servicing, and expanding product offerings. Asia’s rapidly expanding affluent class represents an increasingly important source of growth for global wealth management firms, and Nemali’s leadership is seen as critical to Nomura's success in capturing this opportunity.
This strategic appointment is also seen as an indication that Nomura is positioning itself to compete more effectively with international financial giants already established in Asia's wealth management space. By bringing in top talent like Nemali, Nomura aims to demonstrate its commitment to becoming a key player in the private banking sector.
While private wealth management is highly competitive, Asia remains a high-growth area. Nomura’s enhanced focus on this region, led by experienced executives like Nemali, indicates the firm’s long-term commitment to positioning itself for continued success in the dynamic global wealth management market.
