Barclays Hires Bruce Hart as Head of Investment Banking, Africa

Barclays Investment Bank announced on Tuesday the appointment of Bruce Hart as Head of Investment Banking, Africa. Bruce will join the team in November and will be based in Johannesburg, reporting to Reid Marsh, Head of Investment Banking, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
In his new role, Bruce will be responsible for the coverage of Africa-based clients, working closely with the firm’s country, product and sector heads, as well as Amol Prabhu, Country CEO for South Africa, and Head of Barclays’ Private Bank business in Africa.
Bruce joins Barclays from Standard Bank, where he spent the last 19 years, initially serving as a Manager in its Structured Debt Finance team. He has been with the bank’s M&A team for 6 years before relocating to Beijing to take on the role of Head of China Africa Business Development in 2013. In 2016, Bruce headed up Standard Bank’s Investment Banking business in South Africa and was most recently Head of Sector Advisory for Corporate Finance.
Besides, Bruce has led the origination and execution of a number of transactions during his career. These include advising Assore Limited on its offer to minority shareholders and delisting from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, advising Omnia Holdings Limited on its debt recapitalisation and rights offer, advising Steinhoff International Holdings NV on its disposal of Unitrans Motor Group to CFAO Group, advising Standard Bank Group Limited on its offer to minority shareholders of Liberty Holdings Limited, and advising Shanduka Group in respect of the acquisition by China Investment Corporation of a strategic equity shareholding.
“Our clients in Africa are global businesses across multiple sectors and Bruce’s extensive experience will be important as we continue to build Barclays’ Africa franchise. In addition, the appointment reflects our ongoing commitment to the region,” said Reid Marsh, Head of Investment Banking, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
