$19 Million Less! Retail Forex Funds in US See A Drop in Total Volumes in Dec 2024, According to CFTC Report

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has released its latest monthly report, which shows that the total volumes of the retail forex funds of six institutions in December 2024 continued a 3.61% decline M-o-M with total volumes reducing around 18.4 million USD.
The report covers registered retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) and broker-dealers operating in the US. These include CHARLES SCHWAB Futures & Forex LLC, Gain Capital Group LLC, Interactive Brokers LLC, OANDA Corporation, tastyfx* and Trading.com Markets.

In December 2024, the total forex funds held by these six registered brokers amounted to US$491,340,065, which was US$18,395,702 less than US$509,735,767 from November 2024.
Compared with US$516,235,266 in December 2023, it was down 4.82% Y-o-Y. The following chart is a all-round overview of the data of the six brokers from January 2024 to December 2024.

Registered Brokers' Performance: Two Up, Four Down
Among the six brokers listed, both Interactive Brokers and Trading.com have seen a monthly increase. The former, up 16.38%, adding US$4,192,022; and the latter, up 10.14%, adding US$194,439. The other four have seen a decline. CHARLES SCHWAB (-7.37%, reducing US$4,750,853), Gain Capital (-3.29%, reducing US$6,741,146), OANDA (-5.03%, reducing US$8,578,544), and tastyfx (-6.34%, reducing US$2,711,620)
Year-on-Year Changes of the Six Brokers

Compared with the data of the same month last year, all have declined but Trading.com (up 63.48% yearly, increasing US$820,121). For the rest, CHARLES SCHWAB (-2.63% yearly, reducing US$1,612,389), Gain Capital (-1.65% yearly, reducing US$3,314,687), Interactive Brokers (-4.19% yearly, reducing US$1,302,335), OANDA (-2.99%, reducing US$4,979,466), and tastyfx (-26.57%, reducing US$14,506,445).
About CFTC's Monthly Report
As per CFTC's request, Futures commission merchants (FCMs) and retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) must file monthly financial reports with the CFTC's Market Participants Division (MPD) within 17 business days after the end of the month. The report released this month reflects the financial information filed as of January 31, 2025, reflecting the financial situation of the relevant brokers as of December 31, 2024.
