The Philippines' Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is going to block access to the crypto giant Binance, citing the operator of Binance was not a registered business in the country, and was operating without the necessary licence and authority to sell or offer any form of securities.

Last week, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao pleaded guilty to violations of an anti-money laundering law, and agreed to resign as CEO of Binance as part of a $4.3 billion settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice. On Monday, Zhao was ordered to remain in the U.S. ahead of his sentencing.

The block in the Philippines will come into effect within three months of the issuance of its advisory on Nov. 28, to give Binance’s Filipino clients time to withdraw funds from the crypto exchange, said the local SEC.

Besides, the regulator has ordered Google and Facebook's parent firm Meta to ban online advertisements from Binance in the Philippines. And it warned that those selling via or convincing people to invest in Binance may be held criminally liable.

In Thailand, however, Binance is preparing to run a crypto exchange early next year through a joint venture with a unit of Gulf Energy Development.
