Cboe Global Markets Sees Slight Fall in Global FX ADV for January 2024

Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe), a leading provider of global market infrastructure and tradable products, published the updated trading volume statistics across its global business line for January 2024, reporting a slight monthly decrease in Global FX ADV for the month.
Trading Overview for January 2024
Global FX average daily trading volume (ADV) for the period totaled $44.82 billion, increasing 6.6% compared to $42.04 billion in the year-ago month and decreasing 1.7% compared to $45.6 billion in the prior month.
ADV of Options amounted to 14.68 million contracts, 0.6% higher than 14.59 million contracts in January 2023 and 1.5% higher than 14.46 million contracts in December 2023. Among them, multiply-listed options accounted for 10.56 million contracts, down 5.9% YoY (Jan. 2023: 11.22 million contracts) and up 0.8% MoM (Dec. 2023: 10.47 million contracts). Index options accounted for 4.12 million contracts, up 22.2% YoY (Jan. 2023: 3.37 million contracts) and up 3.4% MoM (Dec. 2023: 3.98 million contracts).
Futures ADV came in at 229 thousands (k) contracts for the month, rising 18.2% compared to 194k contracts in the same period of last year and rising 14.0% compared to 201k contracts in the prior month.
European Equities ADV dropped by 8.2% from €10.29 billion in the year-ago month to €9.45 billion, an increase of 7.2% compared to €8.82 billion in the previous month.
Australian Equities ADV was AUD 674 million, a slight increase of 1.1% compared to AUD 667 million in last January but a decrease of 13.3% compared to AUD 777 million in last month.
Japanese Equities ADV surged 64.3% on a year-on-year basis, increased from JPY 166 billion to JPY 272 billion, jumping 41.6% from JPY 192 billion in the prior month.
