The UAE government has introduced a comprehensive "Know Your Customer" (KYC) digital platform, a significant step in modernizing the country's financial sector and strengthening regulatory compliance. Launched under Federal Decree-Law No 30 of 2024, this initiative aims to streamline identity verification, enhance data security, and combat financial crime within the banking, insurance, and financial sectors. The platform is designed to provide accurate, confidential customer data, ensuring compliance with national and international financial regulations while fostering trust in the UAE's financial ecosystem.

A newly established regulatory entity will oversee the platform's development and operations, with a mandate to manage data collection, storage, and analysis in line with national cybersecurity standards. The UAE Central Bank will supervise the platform, establishing regulatory guidelines and standards for data use, storage, and protection. Customers will retain the right to access their KYC reports, while unauthorized disclosure or misuse of data will face severe penalties, including prison sentences of at least two years and fines starting at Dh50,000 ($13,612).

This initiative reflects the UAE's commitment to becoming a global leader in financial technology. By integrating advanced digital solutions, the platform aims to enhance the competitiveness and transparency of the UAE's banking sector. This move aligns with the broader strategy to diversify the national economy beyond oil, as the non-oil sector has seen significant growth in recent quarters. With total bank capital and reserves surpassing Dh500 billion in July, the UAE's robust financial sector continues to play a crucial role in the nation's economic stability and expansion.
