BlackRock's Crypto ETF Inflows Decline Sharply in Q1 2025

BlackRock has reported a significant decrease in inflows to its digital asset ETFs in the first quarter of 2025, with an 83% drop compared to the previous quarter. The company’s report indicates that while $3 billion was still invested in its Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, this represents a substantial slowdown from the strong performance seen at the end of 2024.
The decline in inflows is attributed to a stagnation in crypto prices and a shift in investor sentiment, following a period of post-election market optimism. The $3 billion invested in the first quarter accounted for only 2.8% of BlackRock's total iShares inflows during that period. BlackRock's digital asset AUM reached $50.3 billion, a small fraction of the company's overall $10 trillion AUM. Crypto ETF base fees contributed $34 million to the quarter's revenue, less than 1% of the firm’s long term revenue generation.
Despite the downturn in crypto ETF inflows, BlackRock reported growth in other areas, including private markets, active strategies, and technology services. The company's overall net inflows were $84 billion, and subscription revenue from Aladdin and the Preqin acquisition increased by 16% year-over-year. The company saw a 12% rise in revenue and a 14% increase in adjusted operating income.
