FCA Launches 'Supercharged Sandbox' for AI Innovation in Financial Services

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced the launch of a "Supercharged Sandbox," a new initiative designed to enable financial services firms to safely experiment with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to foster innovation. This program, announced today, June 10, 2025, is the result of a collaboration that will provide participating firms with access to NVIDIA accelerated computing and NVIDIA AI Enterprise Software.
The Supercharged Sandbox aims to provide firms with enhanced data access, technical expertise, and regulatory support to accelerate their AI innovation efforts. It is open to any financial services firm interested in exploring and experimenting with AI, specifically targeting those in the discovery and experimentation phases of AI development. For firms further along in their development and ready to deploy AI, the FCA offers an existing AI Live Testing service. This initiative aligns with the FCA's new strategy, which emphasizes supporting economic growth by enabling innovation and leveraging technological advancements like AI.
Jessica Rusu, the FCA's Chief Data, Intelligence, and Information Officer, commented on the new sandbox: "This collaboration will help those that want to test AI ideas but who lack the capabilities to do so. We'll help firms harness AI to benefit our markets and consumers, while supporting economic growth." Dr. Jochen Papenbrock, EMEA Head of Financial Technology at NVIDIA, added, "AI is fundamentally reshaping the financial sector by automating processes, enhancing data analysis, and improving decision-making, which leads to greater efficiency, accuracy, and risk management across a wide range of financial activities." He further stated, "The FCA's Supercharged Sandbox provides firms with a secure environment to explore AI innovations using NVIDIA's full stack accelerated computing platform, supporting industry-wide growth and efficiency."
Firms can now apply to participate in the Supercharged Sandbox via the FCA's website, with successful applicants expected to begin their experimentation from October 2025.
