UK-based prop trading firm Propel Capital has closed its doors just over a year after its launch, citing unsustainable competition in the sector. The company's website has gone offline, and trading activity has been halted.

In a statement on X, founder and CEO Mitchell Ali explained that rival firms' aggressive discounts and looser trading rules left Propel unable to compete without incurring losses. "The sheer volume of competition in the market has led us to a position where I believe that scaling the business would go against our goal of sustainability," Ali said.

The firm has pledged refunds to qualifying clients and suggested it may seek a buyer to continue the brand. Regulatory filings from late 2024 showed Propel held limited assets compared to liabilities exceeding £150,000.

Propel's collapse adds to a growing list of prop firms shutting down in recent months, including Germany's Funded Unicorn (Read: "Behind Funded Unicorn's Fall Lies a Bigger Question: Vision or Exit Strategy?"). Industry analysts have pointed to structural challenges in the sector, with dozens of firms reportedly ceasing operations last year alone.
