Moscow Exchange Sees 10% YoY Gain in July’s Trading Volumes

Moscow Exchange, the largest exchange group in Russia, has released key trading metrics for July, reporting a decline in foreign exchange (forex) trading volumes, but the overall figures strengthened.
According to the report, the total trading volumes across Moscow Exchange’s markets reached RUB 87.3 trillion, which is 10.4% higher compared to the same period in 2020.
For the Equity & Bond Market, the trading volume totaled RUB 2,013.8 billion. The figure went up by 6.3% when compared with the same metric of the previous year.
Moreover, Derivatives Market volumes increased by 40.4% to RUB 12.5 trillion and Money Market turnover grew 15.9% to RUB 44.6 trillion. Turnover in precious metals (spot and swaps) was up 5 times to RUB 27.9 billion.
In terms of the FX Market, the exchange reported a trading volume of RUB 25.8 trillion, a slight decline from RUB 27.5 trillion in July 2020. Despite the dip in overall FX trading activity, forex spot trades grew by 9.6% to RUB 7.7 trillion compared to the same period in 2020.
As Fazzaco reported earlier, Moscow Exchange has signed a cooperation agreement with Sberbank to jointly create new solutions to boost investor interest and improve exchange infrastructure.
