According to the regulator, the fake website copied all the content illegally from the real CySEC website, falsely giving the impression that it’s the real watchdog’s one.
The clone website operates under the domain name https://cysecgov.com/, while the CySEC’s main website address is https://www.cysec.gov.cy. Another distinction is that all the announcements on the website that illegally copies that of CySEC are only until October 2020. The real CySEC website has announcements up until this month, August 2021.
“The public is urged to be very careful and to make sure that it is linked to the official CySEC website, especially in case of payments that need to be made for exams or other purposes through JCC, as well as for licensed entities under the supervision of CySEC,”the regulator said.
Actually, such frauds are not new. On 23 July 2021, the CySEC published an announcement, urging the public's caution against fraudsters presenting themselves as CySEC officers or representatives to perform a fraud or other criminal acts.
