Barclays has announced the appointment of Gijs Borghouts as Chief Internal Auditor, and a standing attendee of the Group Executive Committee, subject to regulatory approval.

Gijs is currently Chief Internal Auditor for Barclays Bank PLC (BBPLC). He joined the bank in 2021, having previously held senior Auditor roles at NatWest Group, ABN AMRO and Royal Bank of Scotland.

Gijs will succeed Lindsay O'Reilly, who has led the Internal Audit function since 2019.

C.S. Venkatakrishnan, Group Chief Executive Officer at Barclays, said: "I am delighted to announce that Gijs Borghouts will be appointed Chief Internal Auditor. Gijs has made a tremendous impact through his role to date, and I look forward to working more closely together.

"I want to express my sincere thanks to Lindsay for her continued commitment to Barclays. I have hugely valued her excellent counsel and leadership throughout her eight years with us."

Gijs will assume the role from 1 May, subject to regulatory approval.
