BCP Technologies Launches First Regulated GBP Stablecoin, tGBP

BCP Technologies has launched tGBP, which it describes as the first GBP stablecoin from a regulated issuer, following a 14-month review that included a one-month participation in the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulatory Sandbox. Tokenised GBP (tGBP) is designed to offer individuals and institutions a secure method to transfer sterling on-chain, supported by multiple wallet options. This launch coincides with the FCA's public consultation on stablecoin and crypto custody rules, which opened on May 28, 2025.
tGBP is traded on BCP.Markets, providing direct access to a GBP-pegged stablecoin. Each tGBP token is backed 1:1 by reserves held in a segregated account at a UK-regulated financial institution and is fully redeemable for sterling at any time. BCP Technologies highlights that, until now, GBP stablecoin options have been limited, often issued by offshore entities with low liquidity compared to US dollar stablecoins. The company states that tGBP leverages the reliability of U.K. financial infrastructure for minting and redeeming processes, combined with the flexibility and speed of blockchain technology.
Benoit Marzouk, CEO of BCP Technologies, commented, "Stablecoins enable open, instant, and frictionless transfers, free from volatility. Our vision is to abstract the complexity of blockchain with the familiarity of a GBP denomination, ultimately replacing GBP e-money with our GBP stablecoin." The tGBP smart contract, live and tested on Ethereum for over a year, has been independently audited. Marzouk further added that "tGBP supports a broad range of use cases: GBP self-custody for retail and corporates to bring an alternative from banks (and their inherent fractional reserve risk), cross-border payments, institutional collateral management, a GBP option for DeFi lending protocols and a GBP on-chain access for bitcoin-backed loans. It might also be used in the future as the main GBP rail for settling tokenised assets like bonds, securities, or real estate."
BCP Technologies observes that 2025 has seen significant progress in stablecoin infrastructure, with firms like Circle and Stripe-acquired Bridge enabling payment orchestration and cross-border payments using stablecoins as on-chain mediums of exchange to accelerate real-time international transfers. Marzouk stated that "Stablecoins like tGBP not only speed up settlements by removing intermediaries, but also unlock powerful features such as programmable payments and automated pay-outs." He anticipates that foreign exchange trading will move on-chain, emphasizing the critical role of UK regulation, and expects the rise of Bitcoin treasury strategies to drive further stablecoin adoption. BCP Technologies' participation in the FCA's Regulated Sandbox is said to have provided valuable regulatory engagement and deployment insights. The company emphasizes its commitment to ongoing transparency through independent reserve audits and robust compliance processes, viewing tGBP as a foundational element of the UK's future digital financial infrastructure.
