Beyond Charts and Trades: EBC's Role in Taiwan's Typhoon Recovery
Summary: EBC donated USD10,000 to support Typhoon Danas recovery in Taiwan, reaffirming our commitment to community impact and client protection.
When Typhoon Danas battered Taiwan's southern coast on 6 July, it left more than wrecked buildings in its wake. Thousands of homes were damaged or flooded across Tainan, critical infrastructure was disrupted, and extended outages of water and power pushed communities to the brink. The agricultural sector alone suffered an estimated NT$1.6 billion (approx. USD49 million) in losses, while education facilities faced over NT$260 million (approx. USD8.9 million) in damages.

We Step In with USD10,000 for Relief Efforts
Recovery efforts are still ongoing. But amidst the crisis, we at EBC Financial Group chose to act. We have contributed USD10,000 to Tainan's official Social Assistance Fund, a direct gesture of support for local residents struggling to rebuild. The initiative aims to help restore vital services and ease the burden on families most affected by the typhoon's destruction.
"We stand with the people of Tainan as they recover from the widespread damage caused by Typhoon Danas," said David Barrett, CEO of EBC Financial Group (UK) Ltd. "We hope this contribution reaches those who need it most, and helps communities move forward."
A Consistent Commitment Beyond the Trading Floor
This is not a one-off gesture. Our approach to corporate responsibility is built on presence, relevance, and long-term value creation. From supporting underprivileged childcare communities in Thailand to backing financial literacy initiatives, we're committed to making meaningful contributions that extend far beyond the financial markets.
Responsibility in Crisis and in Client Protection
We see disaster relief as part of the same responsibility we uphold in safeguarding client capital. Just as we maintain strict fund segregation, dedicated infrastructure, and robust compliance controls, we also show up where and when people need real support.
Rebuilding with Purpose
In the face of Typhoon Danas, our response stands out not because of headlines or token charity, but because of a principle: financial institutions must show up for more than just profits.
As Taiwan rebuilds, we reaffirm our dedication to both the clients we serve and the communities we stand alongside.
