Binance VP Daniel Trinder to Move to New Zealand’s FMA as Executive Director

The New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority (FMA) announced on Monday that Daniel Trinder, the former VP, Government Affairs and Policy at Binance, would join the watchdog’s enterprise leadership team as Executive Director – Strategy and Design in June, based in Wellington. 

In the new role, Daniel will lead the design and execution of the FMA’s strategic focus, including responsibility for functional teams comprising, economic-based analytics, research and insights, strategy and planning, policy, and external relations and communications, according to the official press release. 

Daniel has been part of Binance since May 2022 in UK. Prior to that, he was Advisor Financial Supervision at International Monetary Fund for over two years, and Senior Advisor at Afore Consulting, an independent and innovative public affairs consultancy in the financial sector.

In addition, Daniel has held multiple senior role in the banking sector, including Managing Director, Head of Regulatory Relations and Policy at Barclays UK, Managing Director, Global Head of Regulatory Reform at Standard Chartered Bank, Managing Director, Global Head of Regulatory Policy at Deutsche Bank, and Executive Director, Goverment Affairs at Goldman Sachs.

Currently, he is also Honorary Professor, School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London, and Board Advisor at CambrIQ, which provides ratings on demand for listed companies allowing investors to gauge future greenwashing behaviour of a company and inform their ESG portfolio investment decisions.

Moreover, Daniel was Chair, Regulatory Policy Committee at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association. Earlier in his career, he has spent five years at HM Treasury, with roles including Deputy Director, Head European and International Financial Services, and Senior Policy Adviser, Head of Prudential Policy.
