BitMEX, a platform that deals exclusively with the trading of cryptocurrencies, announced that it has appointed Alexander Höptner as its new CEO. This addition to the company aims to bring the exchange to a safer place due to its recent tussle with the American CFTC.

As seen on his Linkedin profile, Höptner has originally joined Boerse Stuttgart, the second largest stock exchange in Germany, as a member of the GmbH board since January 2017. A year later, he took up the post as CEO of Boerse Stuttgart GmbH and Euwax AG (a financial services provider owned by Boerse Stuttgart). He worked his way up through several senior roles with the firm, culminating with the current position of chairman. His area of responsibility included primary markets, communication policy and digitisation.

The interim CEO Vivien Khoo stated, "The future of this industry will increasingly belong to those who provide a regulated trading environment that is innovative, liquid, and fair for institutional and retail investors alike."

The exchange volume was around $5 billion in September and due to the charges brought forward by the CFTC, it dropped to $650 million. Despite all of this, the exchange seems to have recuperated in terms of trading volume, as it currently stands as the 4th largest derivatives exchange based on trading volume.
