In response to the recent charge by the U.S. Department of Justice alleging violations of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), BitMEX has issued a statement on their blog, reaffirming its stance and outlining the steps taken since the alleged period of misconduct.

The charge in question pertains to operations up to September 2020, for which BitMEX's founders had previously accepted sentencing in 2022. BitMEX acknowledges the historical issues but stresses that substantial remedial measures have been implemented to strengthen compliance frameworks and operational integrity. Notably, the platform introduced a robust user verification program in 2020, rigorously audited by independent third parties to ensure adherence to anti-money laundering (AML) regulations and prevent unauthorized trading by U.S. persons.

The company underscores that these initiatives represent a significant evolution in its commitment to compliance and regulatory standards. BitMEX highlights its ongoing cooperation with regulatory authorities, including settlements reached with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) in 2021, which included substantial financial penalties and operational adjustments

Despite the charge, BitMEX reassures its users, partners, and stakeholders that business operations remain unaffected.
