According to UK disclosure rules, when a shareholder's voting rights cross the 5% threshold, disclosure is required. The change in Capital Group's shareholding this time has triggered the relevant reporting obligations.

Based on the latest disclosure by the IG Group showing a total of 340,009,834 voting rights, this shareholding equates to approximately 17.2 million shares. At the recent stock price of around $18.6, the market value of this investment is estimated to be about $316 million.

IG previously disclosed that, as of December 31, 2025, the company had issued 361,557,868 ordinary shares, of which 21,548,034 shares were treasury shares, resulting in a total of 340,009,834 shares with voting rights.

This investment follows a similar move by Capital Group in June this year regarding Plus500. At that time, the firm disclosed that it held a 5.44% stake in the London-listed retail trading platform, totaling 3,917,567 shares. Based on the market price at the time, this stake was worth approximately £133.1 million (about $181 million).

On the other hand, IG Group previously announced its quarterly results for the three months ending in November, with its core business segments achieving growth, covering contracts for difference (CFDs), share trading, and retail customer trading activity.

During the reporting period, net trading income rose to £271 million, an increase of nearly 30% year-on-year. The United States is the company's fastest-growing regional market, with its subsidiary tastytrade contributing over $65 million in revenue.
