Casa launches Casa Wallet, a secure, private self custody wallet

Source: IBS Intelligence
New York-based Casa, a startup that helps consumers securely store cryptocurrencies, has announced the launch of Casa Wallet, a secure, private, and easy self-custody wallet for Bitcoiners.
The launch is part of the company’s strategic 2020 mission to offer a personal security system for every level of Bitcoiner. Casa Wallet is built inside the same Keymaster app powering Casa memberships.
“The genesis of the Casa Wallet goes all the way back to 2018, when our premium clients began asking us for a wallet they’d feel comfortable recommending to their family and friends. We realized there wasn’t an option on the market as easy as a custodial wallet, but which stayed true to the Bitcoin values of giving you full control and sovereignty over your money. So we decided to build one right inside our Keymaster app,” wrote Michael Haley in Casa blog.
The Casa Wallet is built on top of the Casa Mobile Key and leverages the same technical design for generating and encrypting the private key via the user’s phone’s secure enclave. The wallet is built on Keymaster technology for enhanced security and is expected to educate new Bitcoiners in terms of key management as they begin saving with Bitcoin.
Casa wallets do not require any personal info to sign up apart from an email and first name (or alias). It does not perform location tracking, data trafficking or any invasive third-party analytics. It is seedless by default eliminating the need for users to manage unencrypted seeds. Casa Wallet provides users with active updates on the health of the private key inside their wallets along with timely prompts to keep their security intact.
The workflow is as follows:
  • Users can set up their wallet without the need to write down the seed phrase.
  • The key is created and stored on their phone, and an encrypted backup is then split across Casa and the OS-specific cloud provider (Apple/Google). Neither Casa nor Apple/Google can access the decrypted key.
  • User can retrieve the backup using two factors: their iCloud/Google credentials and their Casa credentials.
It is compatible with iOS and Android and is free to download and to open the Casa Wallet or send Bitcoin, a second factor is required (typically fingerprint, Face ID, or PIN).
Founded in 2016, Casa is a leading provider of Bitcoin self custody solutions. It makes security easy and protects investment from theft, accidents, and disasters.
