Cboe Global Markets Posts the Third Consecutive Monthly Drop in Global FX ADV for Feb. 2024

Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe), a leading provider of global market infrastructure and tradable products, published the updated trading volume statistics across its global business line for February 2024, indicating a decline in global FX average daily trading volume (ADV) for the third consecutive month.
Trading Overview for February 2024
Global FX ADV for the month totaled $43.63 billion, 1.5% higher than $42.99 billion in the year-ago month and 2.6% lower than $44.82 billion in the prior month.
ADV of Options totaled 15.20 million contracts during the period, an increase of 3.3% compared to 14.72 million contracts in February 2023 and an increase of 3.6% compared to 14.68 million contracts in this January. Among them, multiple-listed options accounted for 11.11 million contracts, down 0.9% YoY (Feb. 2023: 11.22 million contracts) and up 5.3% MoM (Jan. 2024: 10.56 million contracts). Index options accounted for 4.09 million contracts, up 16.8% YoY (Feb. 2023: 3.50 million contracts) and down 0.7% MoM (Jan. 2024: 4.12 million contracts).
Futures ADV amounted to 213 thousand (k) contracts for this February, dropping 6.1% from 227k contracts in the same period of 2023 and dropping 7.0% from 229k contracts in the previous month.
In February 2024, European Equities ADV decreased by 12.5% from €11.53 billion in the year-ago month to €10.09 billion, rising 6.8% compared to €9.45 billion in the prior month.
Australian Equities ADV was AUD 809 million, increasing 3.1% compared to AUD 785 million in last February and jumping 20% compared to AUD 674 million in this January.
Japanese equities ADV surged 62.5% YoY from JPY 194 billion to JPY 316 billion, an increase of 16.0% compared to JPY 272 billion in January 2024.
