Cboe Global Markets Reports Global FX ADTV of Nearly $42Bn in May 2023

Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe), a leading provider of global market infrastructure and tradable products, released May monthly trading volume statistics across its global business lines, seeing its Global FX Average Daily Trading Volume (ADTV) of $41.81 billion, 3.3% higher than $40.46 billion in May 2022 and 3.0% higher than $40.60 billion in April 2023.
May 2023 Trading Volume Performances
U.S. Options
Cboe's proprietary product index suite reported a combined ADV of 3.6 million contracts, the second-highest on record.
Cboe Volatility Index® (VIX®) options and S&P 500 Index (SPX) options in May had the second-highest monthly volumes for the year, with ADV of 770k contracts and 2.7 million contracts, respectively.
European Equities
Cboe BIDS Europe, Cboe's European block trading platform, had a 36.6% share of the LIS (large-in-scale) market, a record high (Source: big xyt).
Cboe Clear Europe, Cboe's pan-European clearing house, cleared a record 1.3 million trades on Euronext Milan under the preferred clearing model, beating the previous high of 0.5 million trades cleared in April 2023.
Australian Equities
ADTV of Australian Equities came in at AUD 655 million, down 21.6% compared to AUD 836 million in May 2022 and down 7.4% compared to AUD 708 million in April 2023.
Japanese Equities
ADTV of Japanese Equities amounted to JPY 226 billion, jumping 103.4% compared to JPY 111billion in May 2022 and increasing 36.4% compared to JPY 166 billion in April 2023.
