Cboe Global Markets Reports Upswing in Global FX ADV for March 2024

Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe), a leading provider of global market infrastructure and tradable products, released its updated trading volume statistics across its global business line for March 2024, indicating a rebound in its global average daily trading volume (ADV) for the global FX market, breaking the previous consecutive downward trend.
Trading Overview for March 2024
Global FX ADV for the month totaled $47.35 billion, 4.5% lower than $49.56 billion in March 2023 and 8.5% higher than $43.63 billion in February 2024.
ADV of options totaled 14.63 million contracts during the period, a slight decrease compared to 14.66 million contracts in the year-ago month and a decrease of 3.8% compared to 15.20 million contracts in the prior month. Among them, multiply-listed options accounted for 10.57 million contracts, down 2.1% on a year-on-year basis (YoY) and down 4.9% on a month-on-month basis (MoM). Index options accounted for 4.06 million contracts, up 4.9% YoY and down 0.8% MoM.
Futures ADV amounted to 217.1 thousand (k) contracts for the month, decreasing 19.2% compared to 269k contracts in March 2023, but increasing 1.8% compared to 213k contracts in February 2024.
In March 2024, European equities ADV dropped 16.7% YoY from €12.30 billion to €10.25 billion, rising 1.5% compared to €10.09 billion in the prior month.
Australian equities ADV was AUD 814 million for the month, up 1.2% compared to AUD 805 million in March 2023 and up 0.6% compared to AUD 809 million in February 2024.
Japanese equities ADV surged 89.3% YoY from JPY 189 billion to JPY 357 billion, an increase of 13.2% compared to JPY 316 billion in the previous month.
