CFTC Data Shows Flat Growth in Retail Forex Deposits for January
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has released its anticipated monthly report for January 2021, showing a total positive change of more than 1 percent month-over-month from December 2020.
IG US continued its upward route in retail deposits in January 2021. Specifically, the broker's net balances increased by about $2 million, or nearly 8 percent compared with the previous month, to $26.8 million. As the number was $20.5 million in the same month of last year, the US arm of Europe's largest spread betting provider saw a massive growth of 31 percent in traders' deposits in January on a yearly basis.
Interactive Brokers' (NASDAQ: IBKR) retail Forex deposits have shrunk by $11.6 million, or more than 16 percent, to $58.1 million in January. This stood at $79.3 million in January 2020, representing a significant year-over-year drop of more than 26 percent.
In January, GAIN Capital and OANDA saw an increase of more than $9 million and $5 million respectively, while TD AMERITRADE witnessed a flat growth of less than $1 million.
