CFTC Releases Data: IG US’ Retail Forex Obligation in June Jumped the Most

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has published its monthly report for June 2022, revealing a month-on-month increase of 0.15 percent in retail FX deposits compared with the $509.4 million reported in May 2022​.

The report covers data for FCMs that are registered as Retail Foreign Exchange Dealers (RFEDs) and those included as broker-dealers that hold retail forex obligations in the United States, namely Gain Capital Group LLC, IG US LLC, Interactive Brokers LLC, Oanda Corporation and CHARLES SCHWAB Futures & Forex LLC.

IG US' Retail Forex Obligation in June Jumped the Most

4f7308edea4da4d8729191e615674cc.jpegAccording to the CFTC dataset, the FX funds held at the five registered brokerages hit over $510.1 million in June 2022. For purposes of comparison, the month-on-month change of the recent months has been outlined to illustrate the disparities.

In June, Gain Capital saw a decrease of $2.4 million to $191.1 million, compared to $193.5 million at the end of May, or 1.22 percent lower month-over-month. Oanda also reported a decline of $8 million to $170.3 million, which is 4.48 percent lower over a monthly basis.

IG US reported a jump over last month's figure by nearly $6 million to $49 million at the end of June 2022, compared with $43 million in the previous month, which is up by 13.85 percent on a monthly basis.

In addition, Interactive Brokers saw an overall increase of $836,582 to $26.3 million, compared to $25.5million in the month prior, reflecting a 3.28 percent increase month-over-month.

CHARLES SCHWAB also saw an increase of $4.3 million to $73.4 million, compared to $69.1 million in the month prior, reflecting a 6.23 percent jump month-over-month.

Gain Capital and Oanda Lose in Market Share While IG US Gains

Looking at the market share of these five brokers, distribution changed slightly in June relative to the month prior.

2420c651074ae90ab015d9657920b45.jpegFor the fall in retail forex obligation, GAIN Capital decreased in market share of 1 percent with a current share of 37 percent, remaining the leader in terms of market share. OANDA also solidified its stance as the second largest in the US with 33 percent market share, 2 percent lower than the last month.

IG US acquired 10 percent share in this month, an increase of 2 percent from the last month. The remaining two broker's market share kept unchanged. CHARLES SCHWAB retained the third rank with 14 percent, while Interactive Brokers has the last one of 5 percent.
