CFTC Releases Report: Retail Forex Funds in US See A Slight 0.04% Decline in November

ec9ab609cac5905a04825b18f6c6a9e.jpegThe US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has released its latest monthly report, which shows that retail forex funds in November 2023 decreased by 0.04% M-o-M.

The report covers registered retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) and broker-dealers operating in the US. These include CHARLES SCHWAB Futures & Forex LLC, Gain Capital Group LLC, IG US LLC, Interactive Brokers LLC, OANDA Corporation, and Trading.com Markets.

In November 2023, the total forex funds held by these six registered brokers amounted to US$518,196,590, down 0.04% from US$518,418,619 reported in October 2023.

Compared with US$486,096,645 in November 2022, it was up 6.60% Y-o-Y. The following chart is a comprehensive overview of the data of these six brokers in 2023 (as of November).

Registered Brokers' Performance: Two Down, Four Up

Among the six brokers listed, two experienced a drop in their retail forex funds in November 2023, while the other four saw an increase.

IG US LLC declined 6.26% M-o-M, reducing its total by $3,786,483; Interactive Brokers LLC fell 10.61% M-o-M, reducing its total by $3,853,856.

Trading.com Markets had the highest M-o-M growth among the growing four, rising 16.10%. But due to its low total among the six brokers, its increased amount was only $185,226; OANDA rose 0.87% M-o-M, increasing its total by about $1,433,147; Gain Capital rose 2.91% M-o-M, increasing its total by $5,635,596; CHARLES SCHWAB rose 0.26% M-o-M, increasing its total by $164,341.

Year-on-Year Changes of the Six Brokers

Compared with the data of the same month last year, CHARLES SCHWAB was the only broker that saw a decline, which is 7.20%, reducing $4,841,075. Among the rest, Trading.com Markets had the highest Y-o-Y growth, rising 126%, rising its total by $744,652.

OANDA rose 1.02% Y-o-Y, increasing its total by $1,680,448; Interactive Brokers rose 25.81%, increasing its total by $6,660,826; IG US rose 27.43% Y-o-Y, increasing its total by $12,213,822; Gain Capital rose 8.51% Y-o-Y, increasing its total by $15,641,272.

About CFTC's Monthly Report

As per CFTC's request, Futures commission merchants (FCMs) and retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) must file monthly financial reports with the CFTC's Market Participants Division (MPD) within 17 business days after the end of the month. The report released this month reflects the financial information filed as of December 31, 2023, reflecting the financial situation of the relevant brokers as of November 30, 2023.
