CFTC Releases Report: Retail Forex Funds in US Up 2.61% in January 2024

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has released its latest monthly report, which shows that retail forex funds in January 2024 increased by 2.61% M-o-M.
The report covers registered retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) and broker-dealers operating in the US. These include CHARLES SCHWAB Futures & Forex LLC, Gain Capital Group LLC, IG US LLC, Interactive Brokers LLC, OANDA Corporation, and Trading.com Markets.
In January 2024, the total forex funds held by these six registered brokers amounted to US$529,721,236, up 2.61% from US$516,235,266 reported in December 2023.
Compared with US$490,942,717 in January 2024,it was up 7.90% Y-o-Y. The following chart is a comprehensive overview of the data of these six brokers from Feb 2023 to Jan 2024.

Registered Brokers' Performance: One Down, Five Up
Among the six brokers listed, only one experienced a drop in their retail forex funds in January 2024, while the rest saw an increase.
CHARLES SCHWAB declined 0.70% M-o-M, reducing its total by $426,455; Gain Capital rose 1.86% M-o-M, increasing its total by $3,742,114; IG US rose 1.10% M-o-M, increasing its total by $600,564; Interactive Brokers rose 2.97% M-o-M, increasing its total by $924,259; OANDA rose 5.13% M-o-M, increasing its total by about $8,558,802; and Trading.com Markets rose 6.71% M-o-M, increasing its total by $86,686.
Year-on-Year Changes of the Six Brokers

Compared with the data of the same month last year, CHARLES SCHWAB was, too, the only broker that saw a decline, which is 11.38%, reducing $7,813,991. Among the rest, Trading.com Markets had the highest Y-o-Y growth, rising 38.42%, rising its total by $382,670.
Gain Capital rose 7.33% Y-o-Y, increasing its total by $13,993,880; IG US rose 18.93% Y-o-Y, increasing its total by $8,782,852; Interactive Brokers rose 36.58%, increasing its total by $8,573,948; and OANDA rose 9.26% Y-o-Y, increasing its total by $14,859,160.
About CFTC's Monthly Report
As per CFTC's request, Futures commission merchants (FCMs) and retail foreign exchange dealers (RFEDs) must file monthly financial reports with the CFTC's Market Participants Division (MPD) within 17 business days after the end of the month. The report released this month reflects the financial information filed as of February 29, 2024, reflecting the financial situation of the relevant brokers as of January 31, 2024.
