Challenger Bank Griffin Achieves B Corporation Certification Following Stringent Assessment

UK-based digital challenger Griffin has achieved B Corporation certification after successfully meeting rigorous standards across governance, worker, customer, environmental, and community criteria. The certification, awarded by non-profit B Lab, follows Griffin's completion of the B Impact Assessment with a score of 91.5 out of 200, surpassing the required 80-point threshold.
Led by co-founder and CEO David Jarvis, Griffin attributes the swift accreditation—secured less than five months after initial submission—to its longstanding commitment to sustainability since its inception in 2017. This achievement comes on the heels of Griffin obtaining a full UK banking license from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) in March. The milestone coincided with a $24 million funding round co-led by MassMutual Ventures, NordicNinja, and Breega, among others.
Looking ahead, Griffin plans to implement its 2024 sustainability strategy aimed at achieving its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. To bolster transparency and collaboration, Griffin has made its sustainability policy public and joined industry groups such as the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) and the Payments Association's ESG working group.
"We've aspired to join the B Corp community since as far back as 2019, so this is the realisation of a long-held dream," said Jarvis. "We're thrilled to officially join a global community of like-minded businesses in working to be a force for good and playing a leading role in positively impacting and transforming the global economy."
