Citi Appoints Jeff Wu to Lead China Markets Sales in Strategic Reshuffle
Citi has named Jeff Wu as the new Head of Markets Sales for China, marking a significant move to integrate its offshore and onshore sales efforts. The appointment, effective immediately, was confirmed through an internal memo, highlighting the U.S. bank’s commitment to its presence in China’s financial markets.
Wu, who has been with Citi since 2010, will relocate to Shanghai to take on his new responsibilities. His extensive experience, including roles in Hong Kong and Singapore as Director and Head of Solutions Sales, positions him well to unify Citi’s market sales strategy. In his new capacity, Wu will oversee all sales activities for Citi’s markets products targeting financial institutions and corporate clients in China. The consolidated approach is expected to strengthen Citi’s ability to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients while enhancing internal collaboration.
The reorganization will also see Wu reporting to two senior leaders: Cecile Gambardella, who oversees sales for markets across Japan, Asia North, Australia, and Asia South, and Ji Yang, Citi’s Head of Markets for China. This dual reporting structure underscores the strategic importance of China in Citi’s regional and global plans.
Further adjustments within the team include Jing Li assuming leadership of sales efforts for financial institutions across all market products in China. Li’s team will directly report to her, while she, in turn, will report to Wu. Additionally, the Corporate Solution Sales Group (CSG) handling China clients will report jointly to Wu and Yoshiyuki Takano.
The memo described the changes as a milestone in Citi’s operations, as this marks the first time the bank’s offshore and onshore teams will operate under a unified framework. The integrated structure is expected to enhance Citi’s ability to leverage its client relationships and deliver greater value to stakeholders.
Citi’s decision reflects its ongoing dedication to the Chinese market, which continues to play a pivotal role in the bank’s regional strategy. By fostering closer collaboration between its teams and streamlining its operations, Citi aims to strengthen its market position and respond effectively to the evolving needs of its clients in China.
