This innovative solution aims to streamline processes by eliminating the reliance on physical documents and courier services, thereby reducing the complexities associated with paper transactions across various regions. With CDB, sellers can now convert receivables into cash in less than an hour, a dramatic improvement from the previous timeframe of about a week.

Sanjeev Ganjoo, Global Head of Trade Receivable Finance at Citi Services, highlighted the importance of this launch: "Citi Digital Bill represents a major leap forward in trade finance, moving us away from outdated paper-based methods. This solution embodies our commitment to a digital-first approach in enhancing trade finance offerings. By harnessing technology, we are able to deliver significant value to our clients through improved speed and transparency."

CDB serves as a modern alternative to conventional paper-based Bills of Exchange (BoE), utilizing a comprehensive digital platform that integrates seamlessly into Citi's proprietary receivables finance system, CitiDirect. This innovation allows all parties involved—the seller, buyer, and Citi—to digitally sign, accept, endorse, and finance bills, thereby addressing historical issues such as the inefficiencies of manual processes, the risks associated with paper document handling, and delays in accessing working capital. With CDB, the potential for faster monetization of receivables is realized, offering enhanced clarity and transparency for all stakeholders involved.

For buyers, CDB provides real-time visibility into invoice approval statuses and facilitates access to digital bills at any moment, leading to improved transaction tracking and management. Additionally, the solution efficiently connects buyers with their primary relationship banks, enabling better risk alignment. Transitioning to this new digital system is designed to be seamless, minimizing disruptions for clients.

Currently, CDB is available to Citi clients in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, with plans for expansion into additional markets in 2024, pending the necessary regulatory approvals.
