CME Group Fines HSBC Securities $50,000 Over Customer Position Reporting Issues

CME Group has issued a disciplinary notice against HSBC Securities Inc. following a settlement related to customer position reporting errors.
According to the notice, a panel of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Business Conduct Committee found that during November and December 2024, HSBC incorrectly grouped multiple customers under the same customer account numbers, despite those accounts being associated with different legal entity identifiers or customer names. As a result, the firm submitted inaccurate end-of-day gross position data during the two-month period.
The panel concluded that this conduct constituted a violation of CME Rule 980.G., which governs Customer Gross Margining Technical Overview Requirements.
The disciplinary action was taken pursuant to an offer of settlement in which HSBC neither admitted nor denied the rule violation or the factual findings underlying the penalty. Under the terms of the settlement, the panel ordered HSBC Securities to pay a fine of $50,000.
The disciplinary notice took effect on January 22, 2026.
