CME Group Reports a Slip in July’s FX Demand

US derivatives giant CME Group recently posted its market statistics for the month of July 2021, showing a slip in fx demand compared to the last year.
More specifically, the group reported an average daily volume (ADV) of 17.1 million contracts during the month, up 25 percent than the previous year. This figure was at 18.3 million in June 2021. Foreign Exchange ADV stood at 735,000 contracts, 3 percent and 20.7 percent lower year-over-year and month-over-month, respectively.
Interest Rate monthly ADV increased 96% YoY to 7.8 million contracts. Options ADV grew to 3.1 million contracts, increased by 55% on a YoY basis. Energy ADV rose 23% to 2.1 million contracts. Agricultural ADV reached 1.1 million contracts, and metals ADV came in at 538,000 contracts. In addition, Equity Index ADV totaled 4.8 million contracts.
As Fazzaco reported earlier, CME Group revealed its financial results for the second quarter of 2021. The group reported a revenue of $1.2 billion, and an operating income of $675 million in Q2 this year. Net income came in at $510 million and diluted earnings per share stood at $1.42.
