CME Group has reported its second-highest July average daily volume (ADV) on record, reaching 21.9 million contracts traded per day. While this figure trails the July 2024 peak of 24.8 million, it marks notable gains in several segments, especially in digital assets and metals.

Cryptocurrency products set a new monthly record with 302,000 contracts traded daily, translating to $13.6 billion in notional value. Among the standout performers were Micro Ether futures and Ether futures, which reached all-time highs of 175,000 and 22,000 contracts, respectively-underscoring continued institutional engagement in digital assets.

Interest rate derivatives maintained a solid presence with an ADV of 10.8 million contracts, supported by a 21% year-over-year rise in U.S. Treasury Bond options and a 3% uptick in SOFR futures.

Equity index contracts averaged 5.5 million per day, with Micro E-mini products accounting for 40% of that total. Energy markets saw growth as well, with NY Heating Oil futures surging 29% year-over-year to 218,000 contracts.

Metals trading also gained momentum, with Micro Gold futures rising 92% from the prior year to 203,000 contracts per day. Meanwhile, the BrokerTec U.S. Repo platform reported a 23% year-on-year increase in average daily notional value, reaching $358.7 billion.

CME also disclosed performance bond collateral balances totaling $132.9 billion in cash and $145.2 billion in non-cash assets, based on a three-month rolling average as of June 2025.
