CME Group Sets New Global ADV Record in Q2

CME Group has reported a record international average daily volume (ADV) of 9.2 million contracts in the second quarter of 2025, marking an 18% year-over-year increase. This performance was underpinned by surging demand across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions, where the exchange achieved all-time highs.
In the EMEA region, trading activity rose 15% from Q2 2024, with ADV reaching 6.7 million contracts. Growth was led by Equity Index products, which jumped 43%, while Energy, Interest Rate, and Metals contracts grew by 15%, 12%, and 5% respectively. The APAC region outpaced even that, with a 30% year-over-year ADV increase to 2.2 million contracts. Energy products saw a 67% surge, while Metals and Agricultural commodities increased by 34% and 13%, respectively.
Julie Winkler, CME Group's Senior Managing Director and Chief Commercial Officer, attributed the growth to market dynamics: "During this period of heightened volatility, a broad range of market participants again turned to CME Group to manage risk and pursue opportunities across asset classes."
Beyond EMEA and APAC, other regions also contributed. ADV in Canada grew 17% to 190,000 contracts, while Latin America rose 4% to 189,000, with Foreign Exchange and Metals products setting new records. On a global scale, CME Group also hit a new quarterly ADV record of 30.2 million contracts, up 16% year-over-year, supported by record volumes in Interest Rate, Agricultural, and Metals contracts.
