CME Group to Launch Bitcoin Friday Futures

CME Group, the leading derivatives marketplace, announced the upcoming launch of Bitcoin Friday Futures (BFF) on September 30, pending regulatory review. These new weekly futures contracts, sized at one-fiftieth of a bitcoin, will be cash-settled and are designed to provide investors with a more precise tool to manage their bitcoin exposure.
Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group's Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products, said, "With these weekly expiring smaller-sized contracts, investors of all sizes - from institutions to sophisticated, active retail traders - will be able to more accurately fine-tune their bitcoin exposure on a regulated exchange." The BFF contracts will settle every Friday at 4:00 p.m. New York time, aligning closely with bitcoin's spot price and helping mitigate weekend price volatility.
The introduction of BFF contracts has garnered support from key industry players, with Steve Sanders, EVP of Marketing and Product Development at Interactive Brokers, noting that the new product will offer "a flexible and cost-effective new way to manage bitcoin exposure."
