Coinbase and Cloudflare Establish x402 Foundation to Standardize AI-Driven Payments

Coinbase and Cloudflare have announced the formation of the x402 Foundation, a joint initiative designed to establish the x402 protocol as a global standard for AI-driven payments. The foundation provides a neutral and open framework, enabling AI agents, enterprises, and end-users to transact autonomously, paving the way for a scalable agentic commerce ecosystem.

At its core, x402 leverages the HTTP “402 Payment Required” status code, embedding payment functionality directly into web interactions, APIs, and applications.
