The crypto exchange Coinbase unveiled that it has narrowed its net loss significantly in the first quarter of 2023, which fell 605% from Q4 2022's $557 million to $79 million.

This was partly attributed to 21.7% increase in net revenue from Q4 2022's $604.9 million to $736.4 million during the quarter. The quarterly results went beyond expectations, as a result in  7% spike in Coinbase's share price in after-hours trading.

Interest income and blockchain rewards in the quarter grew to $240.8 million and $73.7 million respectively. Revenue from transactions reached $375 million, up 16% over the prior quarter, while trading volumes remained flat.

Specifically, transaction revenue from the company's institutional base roared 66% to $22.3 million, with transaction revenue from retail investors up 14.1% to $352.1 million.

"We reduced costs, doubled down on operational excellence and risk management, and continue to drive product innovation and regulatory clarity. Our efforts are showing meaningful progress," said Coinbase. "Our teams are smaller, but more nimble than ever and we are pleased with the pace of innovation and the results we are seeing."

Late last month, Fazzaco reported that Coinbase joined an auction scheduled for April 25 in New York to dispute the assets of bankrupt crypto lender Celsius Network.
