US-based blockchain technology company Consensys has appointed Dan Odell as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Odell will oversee all financial operations at Consensys, including accounting, tax, treasury, strategic finance, and investor relations. His appointment comes as the company continues to expand its footprint in the decentralized technology sector.

Odell succeeds John Chard, who had been serving as interim CFO following the departure of former CFO Phil Davis in December. Odell joins Consensys from virtual reality tech start-up Improbable, where he served as CFO since early 2020. Prior to Improbable, Odell had a notable career at The Walt Disney Company, where he held various roles including VP of global product management for Disney Parks, CFO of Maker Studios, CFO of mobile games, and director of global financial planning for Disney Consumer Products.

Founded in 2014 and based in Fort Worth, Texas, Consensys is known for developing decentralized software and applications primarily on the Ethereum blockchain. Its notable products include the blockchain infrastructure Infura and the cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask. The company has received backing from prominent investors such as ParaFi Capital, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Microsoft, and Third Point. In March 2022, Consensys raised $450 million in a Series D funding round, achieving a valuation of over $7 billion.

Commenting on his new role, Odell said, "I plan to scale our efforts, enhance our financial strategies and contribute to the broader adoption of decentralized technologies." Consensys CEO Joseph Lubin praised Odell's appointment, noting, "Odell's deep expertise in the world of crypto, blockchain, and consumer applications, along with his technical skills in scaling growth, align perfectly with our strategic vision."
