Cryptocurrency trading firm GSR Secures UK FCA Approval, Expanding Regulatory Footprint in Global Crypto Markets
Cryptocurrency trading firm GSR announced that it has received approval from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for GSR Markets UK Limited to operate as a registered crypto asset business. This development positions GSR as the first crypto liquidity provider to obtain regulatory authorizations from both the FCA and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), broadening its regulatory presence across key global markets.
The FCA registration grants GSR Markets UK Limited the ability to offer over-the-counter (OTC) and programmatic execution services for crypto asset trading, including to clients based in the United Kingdom. This approval underscores the firm's intention to align with regulatory frameworks and provide secure, compliant trading solutions to institutional clients.
Xin Song, CEO of GSR, commented on the approval, stating that it aligns with the firm's long-term commitment to building a more transparent global crypto trading environment. With regulatory approvals from two major financial authorities, the firm is now positioned to expand its offerings to institutional clients on a global scale.
Jakob Palmstierna, CEO of GSR Markets UK Limited, added that the timing of the FCA approval coincides with strong market performance, notably the surge in Bitcoin prices. He noted that the demand for regulated trading solutions is increasing, and GSR's registration will allow the company to meet the evolving needs of clients in the fast-growing crypto market.
GSR's UK operations are backed by over 120 employees, making it a significant player in the region's crypto sector. The company is expected to continue engaging with UK policymakers as the country's regulatory framework for crypto assets develops.
