CySEC Chairman George Theocharides Named New Chairman of ESMA's Committee for Economic and Markets Analysis

The Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) Dr. George Theocharides has been appointed chairman of the Committee for Economic and Markets Analysis (CEMA). The committee is part of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU's securities markets regulator.

CEMA contributes to ESMA's mission by monitoring developments in financial markets, assessing systemic risks, and providing economic background analysis for the general tasks of ESMA. This includes regular reporting of trends, and potential risks and vulnerabilities in European Union financial markets across borders and sectors.

Dr. Theocharides said: "I am honoured to have been appointed to this role, which reflects Cyprus's ongoing commitment to contributing to the healthy development of the financial markets in Europe, encouraging innovation and ensuring investor protection."

Dr. Theocharides will stand as Chairman of the Committee until 31st December 2022.
