CySEC Joins Global Efforts to Boost Financial Literacy

On March 15, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) announced its active involvement in the Global Money Week (GMW2024), aligning with over 176 countries to promote financial literacy, with a particular focus on youth.
GMW2024, organized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will take place from March 18 to March 24, 2024, under the theme "Protect your money, secure your future."
CySEC, participating in GMW for the third consecutive year, will lead initiatives to raise awareness among investors regarding the importance of basic financial education. These efforts aim to empower individuals to make informed financial decisions and mitigate potential risks associated with investments and financial services.
In line with this year's emphasis on youth, CySEC is actively engaged in enhancing financial literacy among students, university attendees, and the wider public. Initiatives include university lectures, school presentations, and the distribution of educational materials tailored for primary and secondary school students.
Dr. George Theocharides, CySEC Chairman, emphasized the critical role of financial education in shaping individuals' financial acumen and safeguarding their future. He stated, "Our participation in Global Money Week allows us to underscore the vital role of financial education in combating widespread financial illiteracy."
Furthermore, CySEC will publish an Investor's Guide on online investment trends and launch an online campaign to promote key investor protection messages through social media posts throughout GMW2024.
CySEC's collaborative efforts with the Central Bank of Cyprus, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance aim to foster financial understanding among children from an early age, ensuring a holistic approach to financial literacy promotion.
