CySEC Warns Investors of Fraudulent Impersonation Scheme

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has issued an urgent public warning regarding a surge in fraudulent activities involving individuals impersonating CySEC officials. These scammers are targeting investors with false promises of compensation, demanding fees for alleged settlement of claims related to CySEC-regulated firms.
CySEC has reported that these fraudsters utilize fake email accounts and online profiles, attempting to appear legitimate by mimicking official CySEC communications. The regulator clarified that it "never contacts individuals directly or requests fees for any purpose." The scammers typically approach investors through email, phone calls, or social media, claiming to assist with compensation claims, and then request payments for these fabricated services.
This is not the first time CySEC has alerted the public to such scams, having previously warned about fraudulent websites and email addresses, including "cysecgov.org" and "[email address removed]." CySEC emphasizes that its official email communications always end in "cysec.gov.cy."
To avoid falling victim to these scams, CySEC advises investors to verify any suspicious communication by contacting them directly at info@cysec.gov.cy and to consult the official CySEC website for warnings and updates. The regulator reiterated that its primary role is to regulate financial firms, not to manage compensation claims or collect fees from investors.
