Darwinex to Cease Offering CFDs to New Spanish Clients Due to Regulatory Compliance

Darwinex, a leading online trading platform specializing in Contracts for Difference (CFDs) and FX trading, announced on July 17 that it decided to discontinue offering CFDs to new retail clients and residents in Spain effective July 31, 2024. This move follows a recent regulatory resolution by Spain's financial regulator, the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), aimed at enhancing consumer protection and tightening oversight over complex financial instruments.
In compliance with the CNMV's directive, Darwinex clarified that existing clients who meet specific criteria will not be affected by the upcoming changes. This includes traders who have already opened real CFD accounts with Darwinex or who qualify as professional clients under regulatory definitions.
The CNMV's resolution, issued in July 2023, mandated stricter controls over the distribution and marketing of CFDs and other speculative financial products to retail clients lacking sufficient knowledge or experience in these instruments.
