Dormant Silk Road Bitcoin Wallets Move $3M After Years of Inactivity
Hundreds of long-inactive Bitcoin wallets linked to the defunct Silk Road marketplace have suddenly transferred about $3.14 million in BTC, marking their largest movement in years.
Blockchain analytics firm Arkham reported that roughly 300 Silk Road-tagged addresses combined their balances through more than 100 coordinated transactions, sending the funds to a newly created Bech32 address. The owner of the receiving wallet remains unknown.
Most Silk Road-associated holdings, however, are still untouched. Arkham estimates these wallets contain $38–41 million worth of Bitcoin, while the new address holds only the latest transfers.
The renewed activity comes shortly after former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a full pardon to Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht in January 2025, ending his life sentence and drawing new attention to remaining Silk Road-linked coins.
Authorities have previously seized and auctioned large amounts of Bitcoin tied to the marketplace, with one government-controlled wallet holding tens of thousands of BTC worth roughly $47 million today.
Although the $3.14 million shift is small relative to Silk Road’s historic stash, analysts note that any large-scale movements from these tagged wallets could quickly attract market attention.
