EA Capital Secures Regulatory License as Crypto Asset Service Provider in South Africa

EA Capital, a financial service provider focused on blockchain technology based in South Africa, has successfully obtained a regulatory license as a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). The issuance of this Category I license marks a significant milestone for the company and aligns with South Africa's ongoing efforts to regulate the digital asset landscape, aimed at protecting investors and enhancing the credibility of the sector.
Since 2022, EA Capital has operated as a regulated Financial Services Provider and an Accountable Institution under the Financial Intelligence Centre. According to a LinkedIn post by the company, the recent licensing reflects the FSCA's commitment to creating a robust regulatory framework for the digital asset space.
Founder and CEO Ryan Aufrichtig emphasized the company's unique positioning, stating, "EA Capital provides a unique blend of an established traditional international banking team with a long-term market-leading track record, experienced, and expert crypto/digital asset & blockchain technology team with complementary skills and experience."
This regulatory approval comes amidst South Africa's broader initiative to license approximately 60 crypto firms, with more than 300 providers seeking approval. The FSCA has warned that firms failing to register by the end of November could face enforcement actions, including fines or business closures. By utilizing the existing Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, the regulator aims to create a comprehensive framework to oversee crypto operators effectively. Alongside EA Capital, other firms like CFI have also expanded their services in South Africa, further demonstrating the growing interest and need for regulation in the digital asset market.
