Edgewater Markets Expands Dubai Operations, Citing Long-Term Regional Opportunities
Edgewater Markets, a provider of forex liquidity and execution solutions, is expanding its presence in Dubai, citing significant long-term opportunities across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and Western Asian regions. The company is increasing its local hiring and investing in office facilities to bolster its regional operations.
Richard Elston, a Strategy Consultant who joined Edgewater this year to support its Dubai establishment, stated, "Dubai is an important location for Edgewater Markets Group given its strategic position between Europe and Asia, together with its growing importance as an international financial centre." He added that the expansion is part of the group's continued growth strategy to strengthen its international footprint.
Founded in New York in 2009, Edgewater expanded to London and Singapore in subsequent years. Elston noted, "We see significant long-term opportunities across the GCC, wider MENA and Western Asian regions and believe Dubai is a natural location from which to further develop our international footprint." The move aligns with a broader trend of trading firms establishing operations in the UAE, particularly Dubai.
Dubai's regulatory framework, which offers tiered operational licenses to service providers including CFD brokers, provides operational legitimacy. While most brokers obtain an introducing broker-equivalent license, only a few secure full brokerage status due to the higher cost and requirements of a Category 1 license versus the entry-level Category 5. It remains unclear if Edgewater will seek a Dubai license, though it is considered likely depending on its service offerings.
