The crypto exchange Binance announced yesterday the appointment of Eleanor Hughes as its new General Counsel, with remits of overseeing the company’s global legal affairs alongside a team of 85 legal experts.

Eleanor boasts over 15 years of legal experience. She joined Binance in November 2021 as Senior Legal Counsel & Head of Regulatory (Global), then was elevated to Head of Legal for APAC and MENA in July 2022. She was instrumental in securing virtual asset service provider licenses and registrations for Binance in several jurisdictions, including Bahrain, Dubai, and New Zealand, according to the official press release.

Changpeng Zhao, Binance's Founder and CEO, commented that during her nearly two years with Binance, Eleanor has grown to be a trusted advisor to himself and the team on legal matters. "With Eleanor at the helm, I am confident that our industry-leading legal team will continue to flourish in its mission to always protect users and manage risks on our platform."

In the new role, Eleanor will mainly focus on collaborating with Binance's Global Compliance team to support the firm’s commitment to responsibly grow the global Web3 industry in close collaboration with regulators and policymakers around the world.

"Very excited to be taking on this role working with my super talented team and everyone at Binance during this pivotal time for the industry," shared Eleanor.

Last week, Fazzaco reported that Binance has experienced the exits of executives who had been helping the company navigate a widening regulatory crisis.
