1efe559ba583cb2ad5979a10cbcc694.jpegThe European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has selected EuroCTP as the first Consolidated Tape Provider (CTP) for shares and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the European Union, marking a step toward greater transparency in EU equity markets.

According to ESMA, the consolidated tape is intended to offer a single, comprehensive view of trading activity in shares and ETFs across EU markets, aimed at benefiting both retail and institutional investors. ESMA Executive Director Natasha Cazenave described the decision as “a major milestone for the attractiveness of equity markets in the EU,” adding that the initiative is expected to support the development of the Savings and Investment Union.

The regulator said EuroCTP was selected following an in-depth assessment of its application against the criteria set out in the Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR). ESMA concluded that EuroCTP met all required criteria and aligned with its expectations for the award.

ESMA has invited EuroCTP to apply for authorisation. Once authorised, EuroCTP would operate the consolidated tape for shares and ETFs for a five-year period under ESMA’s direct supervision, in accordance with current MiFIR provisions.

EuroCTP is a Netherlands-based joint venture backed by 15 European exchange groups.
