Eurex Posts 35% MoM Drop in Total Trading Volume for July 2023

Eurex, Europe's leading derivatives exchange, published its trading figures for July 2023, recording the total trading volume of 118.6 million contracts for the month, 8% lower than 128.3 million contracts in July 2022 and 35% lower than 182.1 million contracts in June 2023.
Interest rate derivatives decreased by 5% year-on-year in July from 50.4 million to 48 million traded contracts. Index derivatives decreased by 11%, from 61.4 million to 54.4 million contracts traded. In equity derivatives 15.9 million contracts were traded in July, decreasing by 3% from July last year.
In OTC Clearing, notional outstanding volumes increased 20% in July year-on-year to EUR 32,492 billion from EUR 27,093 billion in July last year. Thereof, notional outstanding volumes in interest rate swaps increased 9% to EUR 13,835 billion and notional outstanding in overnight index swaps increased 27% to EUR 2,722 billion.
Eurex Repo, Eurex’s leading electronic market for secured funding and financing, again recorded a major increase in daily GC Pooling volumes in July, up 150% to EUR 155.2 billion, whereby average daily volume in the Repo market went up by 27% to EUR 177 billion. The total average daily term-adjusted volume grew by 65% in July to EUR 332.2 billion.
