Eurex Reports 9% YoY Drop in Total Volume of Contracts Traded for May 2023

Eurex, Europe's leading derivatives exchange, published its trading figures for May 2023, recording the total trading volume of 142.5 million contracts for the month, 9% less than 156.5 million contracts in the same month last year.
Interest rate derivatives decreased by 8% year-on-year in May from 60.1 million to 55.5 million traded contracts. Index derivatives decreased by 13%, from 71.7 million to 62.2 million contracts traded. Equity derivatives trading remained unchanged compared to May 2022 with 24.6 million contracts.
In OTC Clearing, overnight index swaps recorded strongest performance with notional outstanding increasing by 55% in May year-on-year to EUR 2,933 billion and average daily cleared volumes even rising 117% to EUR 13 billion over the same period. Total notional outstanding increased 27% in May to EUR 34,051 billion.
Eurex Repo, Eurex's leading electronic market for secured funding and financing, recorded a major increase in daily GC Pooling volumes in May, up 142% to EUR 187.8 billion, whereby average daily volume in the Repo market went up by 74% to EUR 209.5 billion. The total average daily term-adjusted volume grew by 101% in May.
